Any creator on YouTube can expect to encounter trolls, malicious remarks, or hate comments. This toxicity ranges from generic insults to identity-based harassment and often disproportionately targets certain creators. Female and minority creators, for example, report facing especially vicious harassment (sexist, racist, homophobic, etc.) simply for being visible. One report noted that “members of minoritized groups, such as women, Jews, people of color, and LGBTQ+ creators, are especially at risk” of hateful comments.
